Meet the Governors

Meols Cop High School is proud to have a highly effective Governing Body which is fully committed to the ongoing success and development of the school.  This dedicated group of volunteers bring a wealth and variety of skills, experience and backgrounds to the work of the Governing Body.

The Governing Body is made up of a variety of community, co-opted, parent and staff governors who each serve a two to four year term of office and are determined to support the staff of Meols Cop High School in providing the best education and the safest learning environment for all students.

Colin Davies has a thirty year career in the Further and Higher Education Sectors and held the role of Director of Estates and Capital Projects for a leading North West University.  He took early retirement and set up Mavimor Consultancy Limited which provides a range of professional services specialising in the education and construction sectors. He has undertaken many voluntary roles and is currently a regional Board Member of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and a Board Member and Trustee for a mental health charity, Compass Counselling Services. Previously he held the roles of Executive Board Member of the Association of University Directors of Estate (AUDE) and Chair of the Northwest Regional Board of AUDE. He also held the role of Director of the North West Universities Purchasing Consortium and was advisor to the Board of Liverpool Community College.

Link Governor for Student Discipline 

Andrew has been a governor at Meols Cop High school for over 25 years, firstly as a Parental Governor and then a Co-Opted Governor and for the last 10 years he has served as Chair of the Governors. Andrew has also served as an LEA Governor at Norwood Primary for 7 years.

The skills Andrew bring to these roles are on the back of a career in management for a multinational transport company where he held posts as a General Manager and Fleet Engineering Administration Manager for the North West of England. Andrew have a Degree in Management and Organisation from Lancaster University, Levels one and two in school governance from the National College of Teachers and a NEBOSH certificate in Health and Safety.

Eileen has a master’s degree in Educational Leadership specialising in policy development and implementation and a National Headteacher Qualification. Eileen has 38 years’ experience at Secondary level specialising in students with additional needs. Most of her career was leading teams in schools to support SEND students effectively. Eileen was also Safeguarding Lead in a large secondary school for six years. In the last five years she has run a consultancy business supporting schools deliver good quality support to students with additional needs in mainstream.

Clare is the current Principal and Chief Executive at Runshaw College, having joined the college in 2009 and has over 20 years’ experience in the education sector. Passionate about the power of education to change lives, Clare has served as an Ofsted Inspector for several years and has also held senior roles with awarding organisations. As well as being chair of the Curriculum subcommittee at Meols Cop, she also serves as a governing board member at a number of other schools and colleges. Clare has lived in Southport all her life and her 3 children all attended Meols Cop High School.

John is a chartered Professional Engineer with 35 years’ experience working in a large multinational engineering company. John serves on the Environment committee, bringing in his wealth of contracting experience to the governing board. His son has just recently left Meols Cop after 5 years, gaining his GCSEs and continued his further education at Sixth Form College.

Vice Chair for Curriculum Committee 

Camilla is Head of Student Services at Runshaw College and has previously worked as a course leader in Science, with experience across GCSE, A-level and Vocational programmes. Camilla also co-ordinates a highly successful programme for aspiring Medics, Vets and Dentists at the college and worked as a Professional Tutor. This role involves driving continual development in teaching and learning, sharing new innovations and supporting colleagues in a cross curricular capacity. She is delighted to have joined the governing board at Meols Cop High School and look forward to working with everyone this coming academic year.

Barnaby has been a parent with children attending Meols Cop High School since 2014.  He works for the Forestry Commission, utilising his skills on the MCHS governors’ Environment committee and has a strong interest in music.

Ian has been a school governor for 15 years at both primary and secondary level and prior to retirement, Ian worked in Finance for over 38 years. Ian has also been the treasurer for two charities one based in Southport and the other in Salford. He has served as a trustee for a local authority leisure company in West Lancashire and was on the regional board of United Cooperatives for three years prior to its amalgamation with the Cooperative Group. Ian also holds a Law Degree and a Masters in Criminal Justice.

Holly is a Staff Governor at Meols Cop High School. After studying Natural Sciences at Durham University, Holly discovered my passion for Science and so wanted to spread her love of the subject to others through teaching. She is now in my 11th year and loves it more than ever! Holly’s role of a Research Lead ensures her teaching is evidence-based, and this is shared with the school to provide our pupils with the best possible education.

Janis was a teacher of English and Drama in Secondary age group and has a specialist post graduate qualification in Specific Learning Difficulties. She was elected as Labour Cllr for Kew Ward in 2018 and was first elected in Southport since 1974.

Lyndsay is a director of a local multi-academy trust, education consultant, author and blogger. She specialises in schools marketing, employer engagement and careers education. She is passionate about supporting young people to achieve outstanding destinations.

Stephen has been an Assistant Principal at KGV Sixth Form College and Southport College since in March 2021. Stephen is the college’s Designated Safeguarding Lead and oversees all aspects of the student experience, including Careers Education, Pastoral Curriculum and Learning Support. Before joining the college, Stephen was Head of Studies at Runshaw College. During his career Stephen has been an A Level and GCSE examiner and a Standards Verifier for BTEC.

Ian has held senior commercial and leadership roles spanning 20 years and is currently Managing Director of a business located in the North West serving the Construction, Material Handling and Recycling markets. Ian has vast successful experience in building and leading teams along with delivery of business strategy.

Ian became involved in MCHS through supporting our successful mock interview events.
