Sefton Family Wellbeing Centres offer support and advice for families on a range of topics (e.g. child development, education, health, welfare/finance, etc). The centres also run ‘stay and play’ sessions for pre-school children and offer additional support around behaviour, sleep and communication for children with additional needs.

For students on the Alder Hey ASD Pathway, parents / carers can access the ASD Pathway Advisory sessions for information, support and advice on a range of topics such as sleep, eating, behaviour, sensory issues, social communication. Sessions are held each Tuesday between 9am and 12pm via video link or via phone call.

Aiming High provide family support, specially tailored sessions during term-time and holidays that children/young people can access and transition services for young people aged 13-25. You do not need a formal diagnosis to register with this service.

Families can self-refer to organisations such as Parenting 2000 (https://parenting2000.org.uk/) in North Sefton, or The Venus Centre (https://www.venuscharity.org) in South Sefton for talking therapies to support emotional well-being and mental health.
Parenting 2000 and The Venus Centre also offer a ‘drop-in’ service for information, support and advice.
South Sefton: The Star Centre Drop In (Mondays 4-6pm @ The Star Centre in Bootle or Thursdays 4-6pm @ Thornton Family Wellbeing Centre in Thornton – no appointment needed).
North Sefton: Alchemy Youth Wellbeing Drop-in (Mondays 6-8pm @ Parenting 2000 in Southport) – need to request a slot by completing a referral form:

Parents or young people can make a self-referral to the Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) to request additional support around mental health/emotional wellbeing. The team will review the information provided and recommend the service/support that would be most appropriate.

Merseyside Youth Association’s mental health promotion team (RAISE Team) currently offer a range of ‘bite-size’ training sessions via Zoom. These sessions cover a range of mental health issues which impact on children, young people and their families.

To access mental health support via text/instant messaging may be beneficial. Kooth are part of the Liverpool CAMHS Partnership and provide 24-hour access to self-help materials as well as goal-setting and mood-tracking tools. The online service hosts moderated forums, allowing for peer-to-peer support and interactive messaging with qualified counsellors. More information can be found at:

If sensory needs are recognised and appropriately managed, this can have a really positive impact on emotional wellbeing. Sefton SEND IASS provide free and confidential, impartial information around Special Educational Needs. They can advise on the legal rights of children/young people with additional educational needs and or disabilities, advise on the EHCP process and help parents advocate to get their child the correct support.
