New ASD Post Diagnosis Offer

 

Following your child’s diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust, working in partnership with ADDvanced Solutions Community Network CIC, should like to offer you the opportunity to access  a new post diagnostic offer for parents/carers and young people, as commissioned by NHS Liverpool Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), NHS South Sefton CCG and NHS Southport and Formby CCG.

 

Parent / Carer’s Offer:

 

Autism Post Diagnosis Learning Programme:

ADDvanced Solutions Community Network will offer Autism Post Diagnosis Learning Programmes for parents / carers (delivered age appropriate: 3-8 years, 9-13 years and 14 years +). Each programme consists of six sessions, with an option to access this unique Post Diagnosis Learning Programme, either online, or face to face across Liverpool and Sefton (subject to ADDvanced Solutions Community Network’s risk assessment process and government guidance). Families will also be provided with wrap around telephone, email and online support.

During the learning programme, parents and carers will have the opportunity to:

  • Develop their understanding of autism
  • Explore the lived experience of autistic individuals
  • Identify skills and strategies to better support their child/young person’s needs
  • Meet other families and share learning and experience

Riding the Rapids Programme:

Alder Hey NHS Trust will offer Riding the Rapids training which is a course for parents/carers of children/young people who have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder. The course aims to help parents/carers to understand and manage behaviours their child/young person presents with and that the parent/carer may find challenging. The course will run over ten weeks and parents/carers will be required to attend all the sessions to ensure they receive the maximum benefit from this therapeutic programme.

Young Person’s Offer:

 

Feedback Workshop for Young People:

Alder Hey NHS Trust will offer all secondary school aged young people (aged 11+) who have received an ASD diagnosis the opportunity to attend a feedback workshop led by Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust Autism Team to gain an understanding of autism (delivered as age-appropriate groups to young people aged 11-14 and 15-19). This will be delivered online to aid accessibility and will run every 4 weeks for each age range. The programme has been designed by young people to give useful information about ASD and the impact on the young person’s life. Resources will be shared and the young person will have the opportunity to ask questions to trained clinicians skilled in ASD.

1:1 Coaching Intervention for Young People (building on the Feedback Workshop):

ADDvanced Solutions Community Network will offer a 1:1 individualised coaching intervention (delivered online) for secondary school aged young people (aged 11+), providing the opportunity for a young person to:

  • Develop their understanding of autism and their diagnosis
  • Identify coping strategies for everyday challenges
  • Gain tools, strategies and confidence to improve outcomes for themselves

This coaching intervention compliments the Autism Post Diagnostic Learning Programme offered to support parents/carers to understand their child/young person’s diagnosis so that they can in turn better support their child/young person.
