Pastoral Support

It is important that your child settles quickly into our school.  To ensure a smooth transition, students are given a ‘Welcome’ booklet which provides them with lots of information about the school and there is also an induction programme for new students in Year 7.

All year groups are divided into mixed ability tutor groups.  These groups meet twice daily with their learning tutor who has a specific responsibility for giving advice and guidance.  The same tutor should stay with your child throughout their time at the school. Once a week there is a morning assembly for each year group, taken by the Head of Year.

The tutor is led by the Head of Year.  The main aim of the pastoral team is to ensure that all students reach their full potential at Meols Cop High by giving the necessary help and support.

Your first point of contact regarding your child’s progress and welfare is the tutor.  Please contact him or her if you have any queries.

The effectiveness of the school’s pastoral organisation was recognised by the OFSTED team:

Arrangements to ensure students’ care and welfare are very good overall.  Students receive very good support, advice, and guidance. The extent of the school’s involvement of students in its work and development is excellent.’

Parents should be aware that the school will take any reasonable action to ensure the safety of its students.  In cases where the school has reason to be concerned that a child may be subject to ill-treatment, neglect or other forms of abuse, staff have no alternative but to follow borough Child Protection Procedures and inform Social Services of their concern.

Parents will not always be fully informed of concerns unless staff are certain that the safety of the child will not be prejudiced by their doing so.
