Half Term Letter for Parents
28 May 2021 (by Stephen Walsh (walsh-s))
Standing on the field today it was wonderful to see our year 7 students undertaking a range of activities as part of their athletics curriculum. At the same time a class of year 8 students were on the field engaging in a biology experiment taking samples, asking questions and really focused on their learning. Our year 10’s have shown professionalism and commitment whilst engaging in a two day virtual work experience programme. All our students have been exceptional this half term. They have shown how resilient, committed and professional they are. As we go into our final half term of what has been a challenging year for all of us, our focus will be on continuing to ensure that our students have the highest standard of attitude towards their learning and that they are provided with high-quality learning experiences.
‘Brokering Aspirations’ is the ethos that drives all that we do here at Meols Cop. It is essential that we are giving students the opportunities to explore and engage with experiences that will allow them to consider their futures. We then need to ensure that they are developing the right values, achieving academically and evidencing the skills that will allow them to make informed choices about their futures and Broker Aspirations.
Importantly that time is now. We are all reading a great deal about the impact that the last year has had on our students and for us it is essential that we are responding quickly to ensure that our students continue to have the best life chances. We therefore appreciate your continued support in helping out students to meet the standards expected of them when it comes to attendance, uniform and behaviour. During the next half term, we will continue to challenge the students academically and we have further plans to provide a range of extra-curricular activities.
It is important to acknowledge the work of our Year 11 students this half term. With the cancellation of GCSE exams again this year the students have worked with our staff to make sure that they are able to evidence their grades. We have worked closely with our local colleges and apprenticeship providers to support all of our students to successfully transition to their next destinations this coming September. We are looking forward to our leavers assembly and Prom to celebrate their time here at Meols Cop. We will also be inviting year 11 students from last year for a celebratory event at school in the summer term.
This coming half term we are also looking forward to welcoming our year 6 students who will be joining us in September for their transition day. We continue to be significantly oversubscribed and feel truly privileged to be serving our wonderful community.
Can we thank you for your continued support and trust during these most challenging of times.
