Mission:
The main misson of the PALS of Meols Cop High School is to help the young students. They are a listening ear for any student who has a problem, no matter how big or how small, but feels unable to tell a friend or teacher.
Action:
- Each year a new set of PALS is chosen by Year leaders and given professional training.
- PALS are on the lower school yard at break and lunch.
- There is a PAL in the library at lunchtime.
- There is a PAL in homework club after school.
- Each year 7 form has a PAL.
- PALS have helped support local primary schools by assisting on sports days etc.
- PALS attend the year 6 Welcome day in order for the new students to get to know them and have a familiar face when the start year 7.
Outcome:
The PALS has been running for many years now and has been very successful. It was highlighted as a good system by Ofsted which said `this is the main reason why students feel bullying is dealt with well and is not a problem in the school, because there are plenty of people to turn to for help.’
One year 7 student stated “ I needed to speak to a PAL one day, and when I asked they were really nice. They listened to what I had to tell them/ and helped me solve my problem; by the end of the week I was happy again”.
