Department: History Resources: We have two history specialists, both graduates. Teaching rooms are equipped with interactive whiteboards and students have access to ICT. Teaching assistants are available to support students who need them. Curriculum KS3: Students are set on entry and setting is reviewed regularly. All students have one hour of history each week and follow the 2008 National curriculum. We encourage our students to be interactive learners, thinking flexibly and creatively to provide well evidenced and argued historical answers. Students learn how to compare the lives of people from different periods and to add their own balanced opinion. Curriculum Key Stage 4 – GCSE: (See options page for more detailed information) Students who choose history as an option in Year 10/11 will study the AQA Modern World History syllabus. They complete two written papers at the end of year 11, and produce classroom based assessments which comprise 25% of their final result. Enrichment: History is a valuable subject and a popular option choice for GCSE. To encourage enjoyment as well as learning, the department offers a variety of enrichment activities. The department has taken students to Auschwitz and the Normandy beaches, and invites veterans from World War 2, Iraq and Afghanistan into school to talk to the students and share their experiences. GCSE students are offered extra lessons after school and in the holidays in the run up to examinations.
