The governing body of Meols Cop High School is made up of:

Parliament has given a range of duties and powers to governing bodies under the Education Act. The governing body has general responsibility for the conduct of the school with a view to promoting high standards of educational achievement (Section 21 Education Act 2002). This includes:
- Setting appropriate targets for pupil achievement at Key Stages 3 and 4.
- Managing the school's budget, including determining the staff complement and making decisions on staff pay in accordance with the current School Teacher's Pay and Conditions Document.
- Making sure that the curriculum for the school is balanced and broadly based and in particular that the curriculum includes the National Curriculum, Religious Education and Sex Education.
- Reporting National Curriculum assessments and examination results to parents, the LEA and to the DfES.
- Appointing the headteacher and deputy headteacher.
- Establishing and reviewing annually a performance management policy for staff appraisal.
- Managing governor's duties to pupils with Special Educational Needs under Seftion 317 of the Education Act 1996
- Drawing up an action plan after an inspection
The governing body and headteacher work in close partnership. The governing body exercises the functions listed above with a view to fulfilling a largely strategic role in the running of the school. The framework is established by:
- Setting aims and objectives for the school.
- Adopting policies for achieving those aims and objectives
- Setting targets for achieving those aims and objectives.
The Governing Body of Meols Cop High School meets once a term but there are a number of smaller committees:
- Finance Committee Meet monthly
- Environment Committee Meet monthly
- Curriculum Committee Meet Half-termly
- Performance Management Committee Meet termly
- Disciplinary & Attendance Committee Meet monthly
- Staffing and Pay Review Committee Meet on an as and when basis
- Complaints Committee As and when basis
